A big problem in Kenya is AIDS. Many children have lost their parents through it or are infected with the virus. That’s why DIGUNA started the project “Royal Totos” (“King’s children”) in Ngechek in the year 2001. It is our aim to offer needy HIV-positive children a home and to tell them about Jesus. It is our idea to create a home for up to several hundred children in Ngechek.
Our station is located in the bush, 40 kilometres away from Eldoret and only accessable over a dirt road, depending on the weather conditions it may be hard or muddy and slippery. The deep silence in the middle of this wonderful landscape is disturbed only by the sounds of the diligently working team-members, African workers or participants of the building groups who work on the construction of the station. We have successfully completed the first two children's homes, a workshop, a team-house, a school, a dining hall and some houses for co-workers.
We were successfully able to build an embankment dam from the river flowing through the plot. A turbine was installed and thus enabled us to produce electric power fuelled by waterpower. When there are good rains there is enough power for the whole station.
The small international team consists of approximately 15 members. Initial communication-difficulties between Swabians, Germans, Westphalians, Lower Saxons, Maasai, Kalenjin and Kikuyu usually don't last long. The work-areas are as different as the team-members - there is something to do for everyone who is motivated. Beside all the practical work we have common devotions, offer a program for the children of the neighbourhood or visit the services of the churches near the station. We are very grateful for Gods protection at work and the diverse support and all the experiences we can make here.
In May 2005 the first kids were receieved into the home. In the meantime 21 children have found their home in Ngechek. We are happy about that and ask for your support in prayer and finances, so that we may be able to meet the special needs of these children.
